Since the pandemic we have not been able to offer a regular food service – please check our news page for any recent developments. The content below reflects our pre-Covid food arrangements which we hope to be able to return to in due course …
At weekday lunchtimes (ie. on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) we offer a selection of light meals, including sandwiches, soup, panini and ploughman’s. See our food menus page for more information.
For Sunday lunchtimes we offer a wide range of more substantial cooked meals, known as “Esther’s Best” after our visiting chef. These will typically include roast dinners, fish dishes and vegetarian options. Starters and salads will also be available. See our food menus page for more information.
Please note that advance booking is advised for “Esther’s Best” as we are often very busy. Please call 01473 805575 to book a table.
In addition to the above, we run occasional special themed food evenings and other food related events, for example at Christmas. Check our news page for notice of such food related events.
We pride ourselves on our real ale selection, the quality of which has been officially recognised with Cask Marque accreditation, and an entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.
In addition to our regular Adnams Southwold, we have up to three local ‘guest’ beers each week – visit every week to sample all of them! Recent guest beers have been supplied by Adnams, Bishop Nick, Cabin Brewery, Cliff Quay Brewery, Earl Soham Brewery, Elgoods, Colchester Brewery, Old Cannon, Lacons, Mauldons, Mighty Oak, Nethergate, Wolf and Woodfordes.
The currently available ales are listed on a ‘beer menu’ behind the bar. The numbers in red to the left of the beer names indicate which handpump it’s being dispensed from. The beers listed on the lower half of the board (below the white line) indicate what’s coming next – an incentive to help finish off the ones above the white line if ever one was needed.
Our lager selection includes Carlsberg and San Miguel, with Cyder from Aspalls of Suffolk. The local orchard supplies apples to them! We also have Guinness for those who love their Irish stout, plus a variety of bottled drinks. We stock a range of whisky, gins and other spirits.
We have an interesting wine list, with selections available by the glass (small, medium and large). Or for your meals, why not have a carafe or bottle to share?
We have fruit juices, and sometimes some interesting local apple juices. We also offer low alcohol beers (now including Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5% on draught), coffees, including latté, expresso and capuccino, hot chocolate and tea.
We have a large garden for children to play in if they get bored inside, and the village play area is right next door!
