On Walk 1: Approaching Waypoint 16

This page lists a number of walks available from the Case. At the moment we have three and will be releasing others in due course. Each release will be accompanied by a News item announcing the new arrival, so keep an eye on our News page or the What’s Happening lists to keep up to date.

Most of the walks were originally devised by Michael Anderton, a local resident and author of a number of walking themed publications, including “Six country walks from the Case is Altered Public House Bentley, Suffolk” (ISBN 0-9543425-1-8) which is the source for much of the material here.

Before inclusion here, each walk will have been checked and updated to reflect recent changes in the landscape. However, should you spot any errors please mention it to a volunteer in the pub so we can take action.

Each walk is described using a combination of methods including textual descriptions, route maps and also photographs of key points on the route. In addition to interactive web pages, we also offer a selection of pdfs that you can either print off or download to your mobile device. Which form of route description you use is up to you – some people are comfortable reading maps, others less so.

We offer route maps in two alternative forms – the first makes use of the official OS Maps online service and offers interactive facilities (for example to allow you to zoom in for more detail); the second is a downloadable route map based on OpenStreetMap data. All the walks are organised in terms of waypoints and the same waypoint numbers are used on both Ordnance Survey and OpenStreetMap based maps and also across this site’s walk instructions and photos. Consequently you can safely use the various materials for each walk in combination.

For those of you with smartphones, an additional option is to follow the route interactively by making use of the GPS tracking facility of the OS Maps app on IOS and Android devices, although you will need to subscribe to their online service to do so.

Lastly a tip – if you click on a waypoint reference on a Case walk page (eg WP1) it will display a large photo of the relevant waypoint annotated with a red arrow to show the way to go.
