To commemorate this special occasion, the Case is organising two events. The first is on the actual Victory in Europe Day: Thursday 8th May. During the evening, at 9:30pm, we, along with all those across the country who are taking part in the event, will be lighting our Lamp Light of Peace and reading out the Tribute. Then on Sunday 11th May from 3.30 to 5.30pm we will be offering a Superior Afternoon Tea, with a 1940’s theme. No booking required, tickets will be available on the day, at the bar, priced £7.50 per person.
If you, or anyone you know, were around at the time of VE Day and have any photographs of themselves taking part in the celebrations that took place we would love to see them. We would like to take a copy to make a display for our celebration Tea Party. Please let us know!
VE Day Celebrations in London 1945
UPDATE 20/5/2025: Our VE-Day ‘Superior Afternoon Tea’ was a wonderful success! All profits from the afternoon tea sales are being donated to the Royal British Legion so a cheque for £600 is being sent their way. Also over £270 from the raffle will be added to our running total for our new Charity of the Year, which is EACH – East Anglia Children’s Hospice. Finally we’d like to give a big thank you to all who came along to our VE-Day commemoration event during the evening on the 8th May. The national proclamation was read out as was the Tribute. We also lit our Lamp Light of Peace and, along with the rest of the country, we listened (and some sang along) to, the hymn ‘I Vow to Thee My Country’.
