Bentley Stores is a village shop with premises next door to the pub, with easy access from the pub carpark. It provides general provisions, including local fresh produce. It is run by a team of volunteers.
Full details of Bentley Stores, including opening times, are on their website (click here!).
When the initial survey and consultation meetings about establishing a community owned pub was conducted, there was considerable support within the village for a village shop. For this to happen there needed to be a site, and having bought and run the pub, the possibility of establishing a shop came to the fore. In late 2014, the pub management committee felt that it would be better if any shop were run separately, and invited people to come forwards to establish a shop venture.
Bentley Community Shop is a Community Interest Company, limited by guarantee and registered at Companies House. It is a separate company from the pub, though both companies operate in a cooperative and friendly manner towards each other. Bentley Community Shop trades as “Bentley Stores”. Bentley Stores have a lease on some land owned by the pub, and have built their shop on this land. Bentley Stores will be open from 14th July 2016.
